REVIEW OF PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES AND TOXIC EFFECTS OF VATSANABHA

One of the most popular life sciences in India is. Ayurveda The medicine prepared from plants, animals, and mineral origins is mainly used; each of the three drug sources can be classified as either poisonous or nonpoi-sonous. Among these, vatsanabha is regarded as the most toxic plant in the world. Vatsanabha (Aconitum ferox) belongs to the Ranunculaceae family, which includes the Mahavisha class. As ancient Acharyas have mentioned, even a strong poison can become an excellent medicine if administered appropriately. On the other hand, even the most beneficial medicine can be harmful if not administered correctly. Pharmacologically, Vatsanabha improves digestion, relieves coldness and is nutritive. It is used in the treatment of vision problems, including night blindness, eye infections, inflammation, otitis, and headaches. It helps treat sciatica and back-ache. Due to specific properties like Ashu karitwa, Ushna, and Teekshna guna visha dravya, they spread rapidly in the body. Because of this, several Ayurvedic formulations utilise visha dravya, such as Vatsanabha, as a component to enhance the effectiveness of medicines.
