Os objetivos do presente texto são: apresentar e avaliar as posturas de David Hume e Karl Popper acerca do problema da indução; apresentar a crítica popperiana contra o tratamento dado por Hume ao problema da indução; apresentar algumas questões que Hume e Popper deixam em aberto. Para tanto, após uma breve introdução, elaboramos cinco seções: a primeira está relacionada com a concepção indutivista de ciência; a segunda pretende esclarecer a distinção entre inferência indutiva e argumento indutivo; num terceiro momento, esboçaremos o tratamento dado por Hume ao problema da indução; na quarta seção, apresentaremos a crítica popperiana ao tratamento humeano do problema da indução; e na última seção, descrevemos alguns pontos que consideramos confusos nas visões de Hume e Popper sobre a indução.
