Introduction: Scepticism in and of David Foster Wallace

The introduction outlines the importance and significance of scepticism in the history of philosophy and explains how it is taken up as a central issue in Wallace’s writing. An overview of existing scholarship on Wallace is provided. Issues of trust and distrust are identified as key themes in the reception of Wallace’s work, which is shown to be binarized between attitudes of uncritical trust and dissenting suspicion.
