The Greekness of the generation of the ʼ30s and the case of Thrassos Kastanakis

Οι έννοιες της ελληνικότητας και του εθνισμού στη λογοτεχνία είναι άμεσα συνδεδεμένες με τη γενιά του 1930 και την περίοδο του μεσοπολέμου και εμπεριέχουν ουσιαστικά το γνωστό θέμα του δυϊσμού της εθνικής ταυτότητας αναφορικά με το παρελθόν και με τη Δύση. Εστιάζοντας λοιπόν στην έννοια της ελληνικότητας, στόχος τoυ προτεινόμενου άρθρου είναι να διερευνηθεί ο τρόπος με τον οποίο ο Θράσος Καστανάκης αποδίδει τα χαρακτηριστικά και την ιδιοσυγκρασία του Έλληνα, τη συμπεριφορά και τη νοοτροπία του μέσα και έξω από την πατρίδα, εξετάζοντας όμως ταυτόχρονα και την επιρροή που έχει το δυτικό περιβάλλον, καθώς και ο δυτικός τρόπος ζωής στη διαμόρφωση του χαρακτήρα και της προσωπικότητάς του. The concepts of Greekness and nationism in literature are directly linked to the generation of the 1930s and the interwar period and essentially contain the well-known theme of the dualism of national identity in relation to the past and the West. Focusing therefore on the concept of Greekness, the aim of the proposed article is to investigate the way in which Thrassos Kastanakis depicts the characteristics and temperament of the Greek, his behaviour and his mentality inside and outside the homeland, while at the same time examining the influence of the Western environment and the Western way of life in shaping his character and personality.
