Effects of Silane Additives on Corrosion Resistance and Durability of Mortar

Silane coupling agent additives were used in mortar in varying proportions, and the effect of the coupling agent content on the mortar’s corrosion cracking resistance and durability properties was studied. Due to the hydrophobic nature and bridging action of silane, mortar samples with the silane additive exhibited better performance when subjected to freeze-thaw cycles and imperviousness tests, and showed increased resistance to cracking and carbonation corrosion. Scanning electron microscopy images illustrated that silanes have a networking effect that holds mortar particles together, resulting in the durability improvement.
