Die Lungenembolie zählt zu den führenden Todesursachen in Schwangerschaft und Wochenbett. Ursächlich liegt meistens eine Thrombose der tiefen Bein- und Beckenvenen zugrunde. Dank der modernen bildgebenden Untersuchungsmethoden lässt sich die Diagnose heute frühzeitig und zuverlässig stellen. Spezielle hämostaseologische Tests decken in einigen Fällen angeborene oder erworbene Defekte auf. Damit gelingt eine erste Einschätzung des individuellen Thromboserisikos. Hinsichtlich der medikamentösen Therapie kommt der körpergewichtsadaptierten Antikoagulation mit Heparin die größte Bedeutung zu. Die Kompressionsbehandlung wird unter Berücksichtigung der individuellen Akzeptanz durchgeführt.
