This chapter refers to the offences and powers under the Terrorism Acts 2000 and 2006, the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001, the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008, and the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015. It also highlights the power to impose terrorism prevention and investigation measures under the Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act 2011 to protect the public from terrorism. It also defines terrorism in accordance with s 1 of the Terrorism Act 2000 (TA 2000) as the use or threat of that generally involves serious violence against a person, damage to property, and interference of an electronic system. The chapter emphasizes that there is no exemption from criminal liability for terrorist activities motivated by the alleged nobility of the terrorist cause.
