Ironic inversions: Geographical and political islands in F.C. Delius’ Stroll from Rostock to Syracuse (1995)

Der Beitrag untersucht Friedrich Christian Delius’ Erzählung Der Spaziergang von Rostock nach Syrakus (1995) im Kontext von Inseldiskursen und der diskursiven Konstruktion insularer Räume. Dabei wird argumentiert, dass Delius in einer ironischen Spiegelungvon Seumes Spaziergang nach Syrakus (1803) die Mittelmeerinsel Sizilien als traditionellen Sehnsuchtsort in der deutschen Reiseliteratur seit dem 18. Jahrhundert neu konzipiert, indem er ihr die politische ‘Insel’ der DDR gegenüberstellt. Er kodiert den sozialistischen Staat als Sehnsuchtsort und entwickelt zugleich einen Gegendiskurs zum etablierten europäischen Imaginären der Insel.
