Analysis of Factors Affecting the Anger Management Among Operation Theatre Staff: An Investigative Study
View through CrossRef
Introduction: Operation Theatre (OT) staff work in a high-pressure environment, where stress and anger can impact patient care and staff well-being. Effective anger management is crucial to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. Factors that affect anger management among operation theatre staff include highstress environments, lack of cooperation among staff, physical abuse, communication breakdowns, workload, and fatigue. These factors can contribute to increased stress, frustration, and anger. The purpose of the study was to identify demographic and psychological factors affecting anger management issues in OT staff and investigate the type of problems the OT staff face in their work.
Method: The study design selected was a descriptive cross-sectional study. Data was collected from 156 people from operation theatres of private hospitals in Lahore, after taking the ethical approval. A convenient sampling technique was used for this study.
Results: In the survey, 39% of respondents (n=61) agreed, and 25% of respondents (n=25) strongly agreed that superiors support them in managing anger at work. Among all, 42% of participants (n=66) agreed and 28% of participants(n=44) strongly agreed that training programs for anger management were successful. 36% of participants (n=56) agreed, and 30% of participants (n=47) strongly agreed that conflicts with colleagues contribute to their anger. Out of the total, 29% of participants (n=45) agreed, and 32% of participants (n=50) strongly agreed that physical exhaustion impacts their ability to control anger. The 38% of respondents (n=59) agreed, and 36% of respondents (n=56) strongly agreed that it is difficult to control anger due to unclean OT. In the survey, approximately 40% of respondents (n =62) agreed, and 28% of respondents strongly agreed that lack of cooperation among staff members is a substantial predictor of workplace frustration.
Conclusion: The study highlighted that unclean OT causes frustration among OT staff and affect the anger management. Inadequate staff training (specifically, a lack of standardized protocols) can significantly contribute to increased frustration and irritability among team members. Anger management training programs and superior support at work in OT help to control anger
