View through CrossRef
This article shows the influence of Quevedo and his works on texts written by Rafael Chirbes since approximately 2001. Quevedo’s influence helps to better understand the form, intention and tone of  Los viejos amigos (2003), Crematorio (2007) and En la orilla (2013), and also the evolution of Chirbes’ personal and literary trajectory. To this end, it is essential to take into account the reading notes made by Chirbes in his own copies of Quevedo’s texts (Los sueños, 1969, Historia de la vida del Buscón, 1970, Poemas escogidos, 1972, Obras en verso, 1981, Obras completas en prosa, 2003 and 2007) as well as his opinions of the work of the Madrid-born writer as detailed in his diaries, A ratos perdidos, and in prologues, talks and lectures compiled as essays in El novelista perplejo (2002) and Por cuenta propia.
