The Protura (Insecta) of the Seychelles
View through CrossRef
AbstractBaculentulus tatuoi (Imadaté, 1965) was recorded from the Seychelles by Condé (1976). In this paper seven more species are added: Eosentomon subnudum n.sp., E. microphthalmus n.sp., E. insularum Tuxen, E. wygodzinskyi Bon., Silvestridia hutan Imad., Gracilentulus kenyanus (Condé) and Baculentulus seychellensis n.sp. Keys are given to the known Seychellan species and also to the five species belonging to Gracilentulus having a very small foretarsal sensilla b viz. kenyanus Condé, malaysiensis Imad., japonicus Imad., sakimori Imad. and condei Prabhoo. The acerentomoid fauna of the Seychelles shows a distinct Madecassan-Indian affinity and may have a Late Cretaceous Gondwanian origin, whereas two Eosentomon species have affinities with the Pacific fauna (wygodzinskyi and insularum) and two are aberrant endemisms (subnudum and microphthalmus n.spp.).
