Derby Aftermath
View through CrossRef
The chapter begins with a look at Black Gold on the morning following his Kentucky Derby triumph. It then switches the scene to Matt Winn and his receipt of a "thank you" gift from Rosa Hoots, by then preparing to leave Louisville within a few days. From there, the chapter turns to "The Great Runout," as bookmakers who could not afford to pay off their customers—or who had never intended to—fled before their creditors could catch up with them. The chapter concludes with a discussion of a probable mix-up between the Rancocas Stable's Bracadale and Colonel Bradley's Beau Butler in the Derby placings.
