AbstractIn 1911 the Dutch incunabulist Fr. Bonaventura Kruitwagen OFM had a violent argument in the columns of the Roman Catholic daily newspaper De Tijd with a fellow priest, Dr P. J. M. van Gils. The question at issue was whether non-Catholics were being preferred to Roman Catholics on various occasions. Kruitwagen's views gave offence to his superiors. Consequently he was transferred in 1912 to the remote village of Weert and he was forbidden to continue his studies on manuscripts, incunables, etc. This brief piece is about Kruitwagen's 'exile' to Weert which might have put an end to his bibliographical and philological studies.
