Wilhelm Ostwald (Latvian: Vilhelms Ostvalds), born September 2, 1853 in Riga, Latvia, died in Leipzig April 4, 1932, was a Baltic physicist, chemist, philosopher and Nobel laureate. He researched many fields and spent a lot of time on colour research. His harmonilary about colours has had a great impact on the teaching of colours in art schools, and is still used in some schools in the USA and Europe.
