The Buddha between two bodhisattvas
View through Europeana Collections
Seated on the right side of the Buddha is Avalokiteshvara; the figure on his left is probably Vajrapani. The Buddha is making the gesture of teaching. Although he is dressed in a simple monk’s robe, he is clearly more than a monk, for his central, higher position emphasizes his special status.
