Jeremias Gotthelf: Historisch-kritische Gesamtausgabe (HKG)

View through CrossRef
After moving to the Springer publishing house in Berlin, Jeremias Gotthelf took up a novel project that had already been submitted. The novel Wie Uli, der Knecht, glücklich wird, published in 1841, was replaced by a two-volume novel Uli, der Knecht, the first part of which took up the material from Wie Uli, der Knecht, glücklich wird. Gotthelf made considerable linguistic changes and added a chapter structure. The first part of the new novel was published in 1846 under the title Uli, der Knecht, the second in 1849 under the title Uli, der Pächter. The text of the Berlin novel Uli, der Knecht, with which Gotthelf conquered an audience outside Switzerland, is now available in a critical edition with the variants of later editions.
