Abstract Pharmacist supplementary prescribing was introduced in 2003, followed by independent prescribing in 2006. The Prescribing Research Group at Robert Gordon University has an international reputation in the field of pharmacist prescribing. The primary research conducted by our group has explored and evaluated pharmacist prescribing from the perspectives of: patients consulting a pharmacist prescriber; pharmacists as students and potential students on prescribing programmes; pharmacist prescribers; doctors (as independent prescribers and designated medical prescribers); and members of the general public. In this article, we describe in detail the findings of our research and plans for the future.
