AbstractThe term designates a range of concepts: a style of painted pottery or, more generally, a style in various artistic media, which is characterized by borrowings from the Near East and Egypt; a period/cultural phase that is traditionally linked to the eighth and seventh centuriesbce; or a broader cultural phenomenon. During the last twenty‐five years, scholars have introduced a comprehensive rethinking of the “Orientalizing,” and have demonstrated that interaction between East and West is not confined to these centuries, but can be traced back to the Bronze Age.
