"Crucified Liberty" and the Neocolonial Crucifixion of Haiti: La «Liberté Crucifiée» et la Crucifixion Néocoloniale d'Haïti
View through CrossRef
Abstract: This essay explores Haiti's historical and ongoing struggles with neocolonial exploitation, political malfeasance, and systemic disorganization. Reflecting on his painting Crucified Liberty (1996–1997), the artist critiques the cyclical exploitation of Haiti's resources and spirit while calling for collective action, unity, and true nationalism to combat the country's engineered instability and reclaim its historical significance as a beacon of liberty.
