This daguerreotype shows a sculpture by sculptor James Pradier (born Jean-Jaques Pradier). It is the representation of a scene from Greek mythology. The birth of the Aphrodite can be seen, represented by Pradier in the shape of a naked woman sitting in an open shell. The woman’s body is wrapped with a string of pearls, she has angled the left leg and grabs the edges of the shell with her hands. The sculpture was exposed from the front. It is a stereoscopy mounted in a frame with oval sections of the image.
