SummaryHorus was the Egyptian god of light, the son of Osiris and Isis. He was regarded as the rising sun, born afresh daily and the symbol of renewed life. In The “Book of the Dead” (around 1500 B.C.) which is a collection of spells which enable the soul of the deceased to navigate the afterlife, it is written: the eye of god Horus gives eternal life and protects me when it is closed”. The eye of god Horus became the symbol of the power of healing and revival. It was believed that a talisman representing the eye of Horus has the power to protect from charm and therefore was used by witch doctors for healing session and during funeral ceremonies.
