Frogs in the Clear-Cut

View through CrossRef
This chapter looks into frogs in the clear-cut. It provides an overview of the life expectancy and survival of juvenile Wood Frogs (Lithobates sylvaticus). Wood Frogs are a species of conservation concern in Missouri since the population was at the very southern edge of the species' geographic range. Logs help the little frogs survive longer as they protect the soil from drying while providing the frogs a protected area to shelter from the heat and predators. The chapter notes how vegetation shaded the ground enough that there was no difference in the temperature or soil moisture between clear-cuts and forest.
