Still Waters

View through Europeana Collections
In the words of the artist: “Over the past year, I found myself wandering for hours in the harbor, staring at the tied up ships, creaking as they list from side to side, and thinking to myself that a ship should not be imprisoned in a bottle. And here I am again, obsessed with the disassembly and assembly of ship images; stretching its creaking mast again, blowing into its sails; deconstructing and reconstructing an imaginary story that builds on the material like rust. This series of jewelry was created out of a constant need for wandering, shaking things up and escaping, and on the other hand a yearning for stability and a permanent base. The strained threads provide the jewelry a docking point on the body, fasten them to the garment, give them a semblance of life like tendons and arteries, and provide a link between worlds.”
