Ecological variables begin a chain of relationships that carries into subsistence and socialization and ends with effects on cognition: plot size is positively correlated with the time adult females spend in subsistence task performance; women who most frequently work choose harsh punishment for children on depicted hypothetical sequences involving misbehavior; and children of compliance‐stressing mothers perform less well on a cognitive task than children of mothers who place less stress on compliance.
