Hybrid Answer Sheets (146 forms)

View through Harvard Museums
A conceptual work of art, Hybrid, 1966 comprises both "finished" objects and documentary materials. The idea behind the project was to involve the art buying public in the process of artistic decision making. Thus, a group of 137 participants filled in a questionnaire about materials, patterns, and colors and made their own drawing. The questions were based on the sample box that contained samples of materials, colors, forms, etc. Gerald Laing and Peter Phillips processed the answers of the questionnaires in various graphs and charted out the results in a blueprint drawing. On the basis of these data they created the Hybrid sculpture.
