Interview with Karl Duffek and Gerhard Marchl, Karl-Renner-Institut. The history and the activities of the Karl-Renner-Institut, which is the political academy of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), are in the centre of this interview with director Karl Duffek and his colleague Gerhard Marchl. The institute's foundation in the early 1970s was an initiative of former Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky. The Karl-Renner-Institut is essentially a forum of discussion and education as well as a think tank. Its activities focus on political education for a broader public, trainings for members on all levels of the party, programmatic work, and co-operation with international partners. Other key aspects, which are addressed in the interview, are the differences and similarities to the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, to what extent history/historiography is of significance in the work of the institute, as well as its recent publications in the field of history.
