563 Retrospective analysis of the role of intravenous fluids in the prevention of Post-ECRP pancreatitis
View through CrossRef
Abstract
Background
Recent guidelines from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) recommend the ‘conditional’ use of intravenous fluids in prevention of those at moderate to high risk of post-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) pancreatitis.
The aim of this study was to appraises the rates of post-ERCP pancreatitis following the administration of procedural and post procedural ERCP intravenous fluids (Hartmans) within a years period in a large district general hospital.
Conclusion
Intravenous fluids may have benefit in reduction of post-ERCP pancreatitis rates however further study is required. On balance, given the relative potential benefit vs harm, cost effectiveness and feasibility we would recommend the routine use of procedural and post procedural ERCP intravenous fluids.
