Dorpackie listy Jana Baudouina de Courtenay do Jana Karłowicza z lat 1887–1891, część II

The correspondence presented here includes seven letters and fourteen postcards from 1888–1891, sent by Jan Baudouin de Courtenay to Jan Karłowicz. This is the second part of the edition; the first one, including four letters and two postcards, was published in Acta Baltico-Slavica in 2024. This correspondence concerns, among other issues, scholarly and other relations in Dorpat (present-day Tartu) and, to a lesser extent, in Warsaw. The main topics are: (1) the stay of the Karłowicz family’s eldest son, Edmund, as a boarder at the home of the Baudouin family; (2) Baudouin’s acquisition of publications from Warsaw, Cracow and Iași; (3) matters related to changes in Polish spelling; and (4) Karłowicz’s activities as the editor of the journal Wisła [The Vistula]. The edition retains the original notation, including repetitions, crossings out and additions, which – as one can assume – will provide insight into the idiolect of Jan Baudouin de Courtenay.
