Pitting of 2205 Duplex Stainless Steel in CO2-Saturated Water

View through CrossRef
The pitting behavior of 2205 duplex stainless steel (SS) (UNS S32205) in carbon dioxide (CO2)-saturated simulated water of a water injection system was studied. The results indicate that the steel has significant resistance to uniform corrosion but there is slight pitting on the surface of the sheets and oxygen increases the chance of pitting after 30 days. Electrochemical results show that the pitting potential is 0.319 V, and the critical pitting temperature is 51 °C. Pitting probability increases with temperature over the range of 30 to ~90 °C. Higher chloride concentration has little effect on the critical pitting corrosion of 2205 SS.
