La pobre y “mala” madre en «Casas vacías» de Brenda Navarro

This paper aims to analyze the figure of the “non-normative mother” in Brenda Navarro’s novel Empty Houses. To do so, the concept of the “normative mother” is defined as a point of contrast, exploring how both models interact with patriarchal discourse. Additionally, Pierre Bourdieu’s theories on the reception of discourses and Michel Foucault’s concept of “self-correction” are employed to address the protagonists’ evolution. Through an exegesis focused on the novel’s second mother, this analysis examines her transformation through economic independence, challenging the roles imposed by society.
