This chapter explores the life of Katie Neumann, born to Polish immigrant parents who moved from Hamtramck, Michigan to a farm north of Detroit. Katie and her seven siblings worked on the farm and prepared vegetables for sale at the Chene-Ferry Market in Hamtramck. Katie also had a large role in the farm’s dairy production. During the Depression, Katie’s older siblings left for work in Detroit auto plants as the family lost their farm. Katie married at age eighteen and took a job at a nearby pottery factory. She sought better pay at a Fisher Body plant, but was soon laid off, so she got a job in the Pontiac Motor foundry. She eventually worked as an inspector, with power over production foremen.

Predicting opioid consumption after surgical discharge: a multinational derivation and validation study using a foundation model
Abstract Opioids are frequently overprescribed after surgery. We applied a tabular foundation model to predict the risk of post-discharge opioid consumption. The model wa...

Well-Posedness of the Fisher–KPP Equation with Neumann, Dirichlet, and Robin Boundary Conditions on the Real Half Line
We consider the Fisher–KPP equation with Neumann boundary conditions on the real half line. We claim that the Fisher-KPP equation with Neumann boundary conditions is well-posed onl...
