THE KYLIX OF ONESIMOS IN THE COLLECTION OF THE PRINCES CZARTORYSKI MUSEUM: EXCAVATIONS OF LUCIEN BONAPARTE, PRINCE OF CANINO

When developing museum collections, an important part of the research is determining the provenance of the artefacts, which may cause problems in the case of collections created in the 19th century. In the case of collections purchased by Prince Władysław Czartoryski, it is not common to provide information in archival materials where a given object was found because most of them were acquired at auctions or from intermediaries or antiquarians. The following article discusses the red‑figure kylix of Onesimos from the Late Archaic period, one of the few artefacts with thoroughly documented provenance related to the archaeological activities of Lucien Bonaparte, Prince of Canino. It is also the only one in the group of Greek vases to whom a painter known by name has been attributed.
