Pashmina Fragments

View through Harvard Museums
These fragments were woven from extremely fine wool. In the region of Kashmir, such wool was traditionally taken from the soft under-hair of the Himalayan goat. They were given to the museum by Denman Waldo Ross (d. 1935), who was a painter, art collector, and art theorist who lectured at Harvard. Many of the textiles he donated to various museums are study pieces that he believed to be the best examples of art across cultures.
