Beyond Anne Frank: Examining Persecution and Genocide Within the Context of Conflict
View through CrossRef
Abstract
The authors offer an educational contextualization of persecution and genocide within conflict from ancient times through the 21st century. Starting with a brief academic and practical examination of the topics, Epps and Harper situate educating on persecution and genocide as part of a global history and society. In this positioning, the authors frame persecution and genocidal acts as bastions of control and take a closer look at how genocide uses an altered version of history to replace the real story of history. The authors then leverage the voices and stories of those impacted by these acts to form a counternarrative that provides educators and learners with an unaltered history. Beyond Anne Frank: Examining Persecution and Genocide Within the Context of Conflict ends with practical engagements that include well known and less commonly taught persecution and genocidal acts in Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, and the Americas.
