Studio Zermani Associati. Nuova uscita del Museo delle Cappelle Medicee, Firenze

Il progetto di Paolo Zermani per la nuova uscita del Museo delle Cappelle Medicee in San Lorenzo è un brano di eloquente silenzio che risolve con la sua raffinata semplicità il difficile tema fissato dal bando di concorso. La figura di una tomba aperta è un omaggio ai sepolcri medicei ma anche una macchina teatrale che offre un inedito colpo d’occhio sull’abside della basilica trasfigurando l’uscita dal nuovo bookshop ipogeo in un’esperienza sacra. Un disegno di Michelangelo per gli affreschi della Sagrestia Nuova, conservato nelle collezioni della Famiglia Reale inglese, sembra del resto confermare la necessità di quest’opera che sembra essere da sempre appartenuta a quel luogo. Paolo Zermani’s project for the new exit of the Medici Chapels Museum in San Lorenzo is a piece of eloquent silence that resolves with refined simplicity the difficult task set by the competition announcement. The representation of an open tomb is an homage to the Medici sepulchres but also a theatrical device that offers a novel view of the basilica’s apse, transforming the exit from the new underground bookshop into a sacred experience. A sketch by Michelangelo for the frescoes of the New Sacristy, kept in the British Royal Family Collection, seems, moreover, to confirm the need for this work that appears to have always belonged to this place.
