Abstract
This chapter features Philip’s rise to influence again in Greek affairs despite his defeat. It discusses his friendship and support of Rome when called upon, and how the Romans snubbed him when his help was no longer needed. The chapter also discusses his campaigns and expansion in Thrace, which worried Pergamum and Rome, and perhaps indicated that Philip was intent on restoring Macedonia’s standing. But Philip was getting old now. The chapter moves to his final years with a discussion of the controversial episode of the quarrel of Philip’s sons that led to Philip ordering that one of them, Demetrius, be put to death. Finally, the chapter ends with the circumstances of Philip’s death and an evaluation of him as king.
