"This research, about women writers from the 19th century, times of the emergence of the Mexican nation, rescues the rich literature of three single women. Teresa Vera, from the Southeast Region, Josefa Murillo, from Veracruz, and Antonia Vallejo from The Pearl of the West, write and publish despite the patriarchal mandate for domesticity to remain as “The Fair Sex”: get married to take care of husband and children. The singleness of these three Mexican romantics, our first writers, will support today’s Women liberation exalting freedom and the emotions and subjectivity of romanticism, to contradict the popular saying: “A woman who knows Latin neither finds a husband nor has a good end”.Keywords: Single women writers; femenine singleness; Mexican romantic women; “The Fair Sex”; women’s liberation"
