Porträt Baltasar Denner, Jacques de Roore und Johannes Vollevens

View through Europeana Collections
Threesome portrait of well-known painters. Three portraits of different painters are shown on this sheet. The bust of Balthasar Denner (1685-1749), on the top left, shows a head shape of a man, perhaps of middle age. The artist was a German painter who understood it very well to copy portraits with penile accuracy, which brought him a great order in 1724, which many should follow. In 1727/1728 he portrayed Georg Friedrich Händel. To the right is a portrait of Jacques de Roore (1686-1747), or Jacobus de Roore. The rectangular chest is turned to the left, as is the head, only the eyes look forward. He was a Flemish painter, copist, art dealer and art collector in the Southern Netherlands. From about 1715 he received orders for paintings and decorations in the Antwerp town hall, which earned him a reputation, which is why he went to Amsterdam for further orders. A headpiece of the Johannes Vollevens (1649-1728), pointed to the right, can be seen in an oval frame. This artist was a Dutch painter of the Golden Age. He learned from various painters and draftsmen. The three artists are provided with a palette of brushes to the bottom right, as a reference to their vocation. In addition, the bust of Denner rests in front of a curtain, the effigy of Roore on a Sims, the curtain leans slightly over the effigy, and the frame of Vollevens leans on the ground against the Sims. The paper appears to come from a 1751 publication by Johan van Gool: “De nieuwe schouwburg der Nederlantsche kunstschilders en schilderessen.” Signature: A. Schouman del. J. Houbraken sculps.
