Research Trend of University AI-based education

Objectives This study aims to analyze research trends in university AI-based education and provide implications for future university AI-based education research.
Methods This study was conducted from August 2024 to October 2024. This study analyzed previous studies to set analysis categories and collected 60 domestic academic journals as analysis target papers. This study analyzed and described the research period, research type, research content, major field, related variables, class type, class period, AI tools, etc.
Results First, the most research on university AI utilization was conducted in 2023 and 2024. Second, the trend by research type showed that quantitative research was highly weighted, followed by qualitative research, mixed research, and literature research. Third, in terms of trends by major field, ‘Korean language and literature’ was the most utilized. Fourth, in terms of trends by research content, the most research was conducted on the development and effectiveness of AI-based education programs. Fifth, in terms of trends by related variables, AI-utilizing education was the most utilized independent variable, and academic achievement was the most utilized dependent variable. Sixth, in terms of trends by class type, the proportion of subject areas was high, and the proportion of majors was higher than that of liberal arts. Seventh, the trends by class period were most frequent in 4 and 5 weeks. Eighth, in terms of AI-utilizing tools, ChatGPT was highly utilized.
Conclusions The significance of this study lies in its analysis of research trends in university AI-based education and its suggestions for future research directions.
