Ka Mua, Ka Muri – Walking Backward Toward the Future

Abstract
Tourism is an economic enabler for Māori communities and offers a chance to build employment opportunities that will assist in bringing iwi, hapū and whanau members back home to support their communities and be supported by them. Marae are the cornerstone of Māori culture. From behind the fence, they look like a collection of buildings, some ornately carved, some not, but for Māori they are the tether that connects them to their people and their place in this world.
