Child labor in the Republic of Yemen

ظاهرة عمل الأطفال في المجتمع اليمني تعد من الظواهر المستحدثة، وظهرت بعد التعثر الاقتصادي وعودة المغتربين بعد أزمة الخليج عام 1990. هذه الظاهرة ترتبط بتسرب الأطفال من التعليم الأساسي وانتشار ظاهرة التسول بينهم. نسبة الأطفال العاملين في الفئة العمرية من 10 إلى 14 عامًا بلغت حوالي 6.5٪ من إجمالي القوة العاملة في تعداد عام 1994.
تؤثر هذه الظاهرة بشكل إنساني على الأطفال وتحول دون تلقيهم التعليم، حيث يزيد معدل الأمية في المجتمع اليمني للسكان الذين تجاوزوا عمر العاشرة من العمر عن 60٪. هذا يضع ضغطًا على المشرعين وصانعي القرار لتبني قوانين تحمي الأطفال من الأعمال الخطرة على صحتهم وأخلاقهم.
مؤسسة رادا بارنن قامت بتمويل دراسة لفهم هذه الظاهرة في اليمن. شملت الدراسة خلفية المشكلة وواقعها المحلي، وأسباب دوافع وظروف الأطفال العاملين وآثارها الاجتماعية والاقتصادية. نأمل أن تساهم هذه الدراسة في وضع سياسات تحمي حقوق هؤلاء الأطفال وتساعدهم على تحقيق مستقبل أفضل في المجتمع.
