Therbusch, Anna Dorothea (Vorlage): Porträt Christian Andreas Cothenius

View through Europeana Collections
On several occasions Anna Dorothea Therbusch portrayed King Friedrich II Christian Andreas Cothenius (1708-1789). Berckenhagen calls four variants, first the Knee piece (Stiftung Stadtmuseum, GEM 84/03 LINK), dated 1777 and a repeat of it, then two repetitions as a chest image to the semi-left. The slightly prevented posture and the clothing in skirt with fur trim characterize the repetition of posture after the knee piece. The roundel frame is burdened by a loop; at the bottom left a putto with a staff of esculaph as an indication of the profession of the depicted. Acquisition before 1963 for the Märkische Museum.
