Interclausal integration and (anti-)finiteness in Chácobo (Pano) speech
View through CrossRef
This paper provides a description of finiteness and its relationship to cross-clausal integration in Chácobo (southern Pano, Bolivia). Cross-clausal integration refers to the degree to which combined clauses share participants (e.g. same subject) or share T(ense)-A(spect)-M(odal)-E(videntiality) information. With respect to finiteness, in the canonical case, a finite clause expresses the referent or TAME categories which scopes over the less finite clause, where such categories are left unexpressed (e.g. in participial adverbial clauses). I provide a survey of finiteness in Chácobo and then I relate it to patterns of inter-clausal integration in natural speech.
