Abu Hatim, Abu Zur’ah, and Ibn Abi Hatim Attribution of Hadith to A Defect that has no Meaning, and The Like: An Applied Study on The Reasons for Hadith by Ibn Abi Hatim

View through CrossRef
The word “meaningless” was mentioned in book “Ilal al-Hadith” by Ibn Abi-Hatim in his question to his father and Abu-Zar’ah, thirty-three places, twenty-eight times by Abi-Hatim, one-time by Abu-Zur’ah, one time by both of them, and three times by Ibn-Abi-Hatim. Each of them has its own significance, and through extrapolation of places several implications became clear, including: denial of narration and hearing, misrepresentation, disgrace, weakness, illusion, denial of hearing, message link, ignorance, lifting of suspended sentence, and uniqueness and strangeness. As a result, one of the phrase used to reveal the cause is “it-has-no-meaning” and its connotations are multiple. Ibn Abi-Hatim is the only one who used it regarding the occurrence and use of this phrase.
