EXPLORING TARIQ RAHMAN’S ‘FRENEMIES’ THROUGH LEECH AND SHORT’S FRAMEWORK OF NARRATIVE VIEWPOINT: A STYLISTIC ANALYSIS

This research focuses on the application of Leech and Short’s Narratological Aspect of Viewpoint model to analyze Tariq Rahman’s short story Frenemies from Pakistani Literature in English. Narratology, specifically the aspect of viewpoint, examines how it influences the understanding of the reader of the story’s text. The aim of this study is to explore how the chosen viewpoint enhances the emotional and intellectual engagement of the reader. This was purely a qualitative study for which primary and secondary data was required. Primary data was obtained from the text of the story while the secondary data was obtained from different articles and books. Results indicate that narrative technique, third-person omniscient narration and focalization, employed in the story, plays significant role in the understanding of the story and readers engagement with it. Further researches can be conducted on the same story; it is open for other literary and stylistics analyses.
