The effect of red algae extract (Euchema spinosum) on dexamethasone induced MDA levels of wistar male white rats (Rattus norvegicus)

View through CrossRef
Introduction: Diabetes in liver disease is caused by several factors, including insulin resistance in muscle and adipose tissue, hyperinsulinemia, pancreatic islet cell impairment, and hepatic insulin resistance. Insulin resistance leads to an increase in free fatty acids absorbed by the liver, which leads to steatosis. This condition can result in various complex interactions that can trigger inflammation or progress to cirrhosis. To detect non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), elevated levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) can be used as a benchmark for suspicion. The study aimed to analyze the differences in the administration of Eucheuma spinosum extract on serum MDA and levels of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar strain induced by dexamethasone. Methods: A pure experimental study uses a post-test-only control group design, with three groups of 9 white male rats (Rattus norvegicus) plus one spare male rat. K1 is the negative control group (a group of white male rats of the Wistar rat who did not receive the treatment). K2 is the positive control group (a group of white male rats with a diabetes model induced by dexamethasone sodium phosphate at a dose of 8 mg/kg BW). K3 is the treatment group (a group with diabetes model rats with Eucheuma spinosum extract treatment at a dose of 200 mg/kg BW). The three groups measured serum MDA levels at the end of the study. Results: The highest mean serum MDA levels in white rats were K3 (872.17 + 103.33 nmol/g), and the lowest was K1 (672.50 + 286.49 nmol/g). The statistical test was carried out using the Kruskal Wallis non-parametric test because the mean results do not meet the ANOVA test requirements. The result of the Kruskal Wallis non-parametric test showed no significant differences between groups with p > 0.05. Conclusion: Giving red algae extract (Eucheuma spinosum) 200 mg/kg BW to white rats has not reduced serum MDA levels of white rats induced by dexamethasone 8 mg/kg BW.
Title: The effect of red algae extract (Euchema spinosum) on dexamethasone induced MDA levels of wistar male white rats (Rattus norvegicus)
Description:

The three groups measured serum MDA levels at the end of the study.
Results: The highest mean serum MDA levels in white rats were K3 (872.
17 + 103.
33 nmol/g), and the lowest was K1 (672.
50 + 286.
49 nmol/g).
The statistical test was carried out using the Kruskal Wallis non-parametric test because the mean results do not meet the ANOVA test requirements.
The result of the Kruskal Wallis non-parametric test showed no significant differences between groups with p > 0.

Conclusion: Giving red algae extract (Eucheuma spinosum) 200 mg/kg BW to white rats has not reduced serum MDA levels of white rats induced by dexamethasone 8 mg/kg BW.
