Hoch‐Campbell Reaction
View through CrossRef
Abstract
The synthesis of aziridines (also known as ethylenimines) by treatment of ketoximes with excess amounts of Grignard reagent followed by the hydrolysis of the resulting organometallic complex is generally known as the Hoch–Campbell reaction. It has been reported that α‐amino alcohols can also be the products instead of aziridines, depending on the conditions used in the hydrolysis of the organometallic complex. This reaction proceeds regiospecifically through a vinyl nitrene intermediate and solvents play an important role. This reaction has been found useful in the synthesis of aziridines, especially the fully substituted aziridines.
