ROMAN MINIATURE OBJECT

Roman copper-alloy miniature axe. The axe is in good condition with a green patina and weighs 6.71grams. It has a circular-sectioned shaft which is 3.5mm in diameter at its base and 5mm in diameter near the head. The shaft has a decorative terminal formed of a spherical knop below a rounded protruding collar. The axe head, which curves downwards on its upper surface and forms a tapering point on its lower surface, has incised decoration on each side. One side has an 'X' whilst the other has a single line which curves slightly at the end, nearest the axe tip. The object is 47mm long, 20mm wide and 3mm thick.
