Miniature portrait of a young woman, with a thin copper edge to the rectangular frame. Shows a young lady sitting in a wooden chair, in front of a wooden door. Her brown hair is pulled back and there are wound plaits on either side of her head. A paisley shawl is wrapped around the sitter's shoulders. Signed "Muriel Smith" in red at the bottom right corner of the painting. Label on the back of the frame "6. // 'The Paisley Shawl' // £12-12-0 // Muriel C. Smith // 9 Mount Hooton // Nottingham." Barabara Warrell,( family friend of the Smith family and owner of a miniature of herself as a baby by Smith) visited 5 Feb 2010. She thinks the painting shows Diana Wynn Sherwin, Muriel Smith's niece.
