Cross-Legged Sitting Chan Admonitions (with Preface) in Zhongfeng Extensive Record

Abstract
This is a short “admonition” on the topic of cross-legged Chan sitting. Admonitions are a prose genre that warns against harmful action and exhorts the practitioner to better conduct. If the Chan practitioner doesn’t understand samsara, everything is useless hustling and bustling about. “Don’t trouble yourself over [Chan’s slogans] direct pointing and the single transmission. Loosen your belly skin and simply maintain.” Thirty years of practice in the world is nothing to be bothered about. Keep the huatou fixed. The 1700 Chan standards are decomposed kudzu vines. At the end is a warning about using this work as a model to compose one’s own Cross-Legged Sitting Chan Admonitions.
